Acts 2:17 – “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Acts 1:8a – “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” What kind of power may we expect from the Holy Spirit?
“In the last days” could mean the end of God’s relationship with the Jews to minister to the world. Scripture tells us that God has given that responsibility to the church. Previously prophecy and visions had been given to Israel. Now dreams, visions, prophecy and God’s power, through the Holy Spirit, has been given to believers in Christ.
We know that the Holy Spirit will provide any sinner with the knowledge and faith necessary to believe in God and Christ. We have heard a number of stories related by Muslims who have had dreams of Christ teaching them salvation. They had met a Christian who had witnessed to them but it was the Holy Spirit that led them to a conversion.
I Corinthians 6:9 – Says we are not on our own. I Corinthians 12:8-10 tells us the Holy Spirit gives to different Christians: wisdom, knowledge, gifts of healing and other miraculous powers. I Corinthians 5:4 – When we are gathered together with other believers the Holy Spirit will be with us. Romans 8:15–27 – The Holy Spirit helps us to overcome fear and assures us we are God’s children and heirs. Acts 20:23 – Says the Holy Spirit warns us. Galatians 5:22–23 – The Holy Spirit helps us obtain love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There are many more Scriptures that describe the power of the Holy Spirit that is available to each believer.
I have talked with a number of Christians who tell of supernatural things happening in their lives almost constantly. Initially, some suffered from addictions that they had tried to stop and couldn’t. Once they were saved their whole life changed. The urges from addictions that were there, stopped.
It seems that those who are most blessed are those who communicate with God constantly. When they awake each morning they pray. When they are in their car they pray. Before making many decisions they pray. They realize that the power of the Holy Spirit is with them and they expect to see evidence of that power. Over time I will share with you some of the stories that I and others have experienced.
I kept pages and pages of situations that occurred as we were buying the church’s property and building at our present location. It just seemed that God was “pouring out” His blessing in so many ways that there was no doubt in our minds that He was abundantly blessing our church. He is presenting us with global opportunities to spread His Gospel.
It is sad to see so many Christians who hardly ever experience supernatural occurrences in their lives. However, if they seldom read their Bibles and don’t communicate with God they would probably miss a blessing when they received one. When something good happens they think they were lucky. When other unusual things occur to them they believe it was a coincidence. They often wonder why they don’t have more faith. The more we see the Holy Spirit working in our lives the greater our faith becomes.
If you want the ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit to be a part of your life make Him your partner. I and others have learned that the Holy Spirit can be an “advantage” in every Christian if we only receive Him as a partner into our lives. Too many accept Him as a silent partner and ignore Him. If you do, you will miss those “advantages” and some fantastic blessings.
